Motion Picture Films and Video Recordings on Five Decades of U.S. Military Activities Around the World, ca. 1950–ca. 2000

This series consists of edited motion picture film and video recordings as well as unedited and documentary raw footage selected from Department of Defense, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and United States Air Force collections housed at the Defense Visual Information Center. The footage includes historical events; training exercises; and military combat in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Somalia, and Lebanon as well as other military events around the world. Also included are scenes involving military aircraft, experimental aircraft, weapons systems, vehicles, and the commissioning of naval ships, in addition to research and development activities. Peacetime activities include coverage of humanitarian efforts and aid by U.S. military forces during natural disasters and international disturbances.

Lehman, John Francis, 1942-

John F. Lehman, Jr. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 14, 1942. He received a Bachelor's Degree in international relations from St. Joseph's College in 1964, and spent three years in the Air Force Reserves while attending Cambridge University. In 1968 he left the Air Force Reserves and accepted a commission of Ensign in the Navy, where he advanced to the rank of Commander.
